Glass and aluminum facades, self supporting with thermal and noise insulating features are usually called "perete cortina", the adaptation into Romanian of the English term "curtain wall". The structure can apply to vertical facades, for inclined ones with negative or positive inclination, but also to roofs (skylights and conservatories).

There are several designs, out of which the most common are the classic curtain wall with profiles visibly covering the glass both on vertical and horizontal, the semi-structural one, where only an aluminum highlight, and the structural one where only the glass is visible from the outside, applied on aluminum profiles sealed with a special cu silicon product. In case of structural curtain wall, or semi-structural, only the glass and narrow EPDM gaskets between the glazing are visible, giving the impression of a completely glass facade, with an impressive esthetic impact. Obviously, this type of curtain wall is also the most expensive one.

The curtain walls can be combined with facade covering of composite materials on aluminum bond type support (alucobond, reynobond, etalbod, jbond, exalcobond).
